National Unity Party (Guinea-Bissau)

The National Unity Party (Portuguese: Partido da Unidade Nacional) is a political party in Guinea-Bissau. It was founded by Idrissa Djaló on July 26 2001. In the parliamentary election held on 28 March 2004, the party won 1.46% of the popular vote and no seats. In the 2005 presidential election, Djaló, running as the PUN candidate, won 0.81% of the vote in the first round. A political party is a political organization that typically seeks to influence government policy, usually by nominating their own candidates and trying to seat them in political office. Parties participate in electoral campaigns, educational outreach or protest actions. Parties often espouse an expressed ideology or vision bolstered by a written platform with specific goals, forming a coalition among disparate interests.
