This book is the first commentary on the complete fragments of the two Hesiodic epics "Catalogue of Women" and "Great Ehoiai". The epics are about the famous women from Greek mythology, for example Antiope, Alkmene, Danae and Koronis. The Greek text of the more than 150 fragments is based on the standard edition by R. Merkelbach and M. L. West, but contains also some fragments that are not included in that edition, taking account of more recent research. In addition to the treatment of linguistic and textual problems the stories of the mythical women an the genealogical structure of the epics on the whole are reconstructed in the commentary. The book also presents a detailed bibliography of scholarly research on each fragment. The general introduction treats the question of authorship and time of composition of the epics as well as their social context and their place in the history of Greek literature. Das Buch enthält den ersten wissenschaftlichen Gesamtkommentar zu den Fragmenten des "Frauenkatalogs" (Gynaikon Katalogos) und den "Großen Ehöen" (Megalai Ehoiai), zweier Werke, die traditionell dem Dichter Hesiod von Askra zugeschrieben werden und von bekannten Frauengestalten der griechischen Mythologie wie Antiope, Alkmene, Danae, Koronis und Europa sprechen, von denen hier viele zum ersten Mal in der überlieferten griechischen Literatur erwähnt sind. Dem Kommentar vorangestellt ist der griechische Text der mehr als 150 teils in Zitaten, teils auf Papyri erhaltenen direkten Fragmente. Er basiert auf der maßgeblichen Edition von R. Merkelbach und M. L. West, umfasst darüber hinaus jedoch einige in dieser Ausgabe nicht enthaltene Fragmente und berücksichtigt neuere Forschungen zum Text einzelner Papyri. Eine ausführliche Gesamteinleitung gibt einen allgemeinen Überblick über Aufbau, Inhalt und Thematik der beiden kommentierten Epen und behandelt Fragen ihrer Autorschaft, Datierung, Gattungszugehörigkeit, Stellung innerhalb der griechischen Literatur und Funktion in der Gesellschaft des archaischen Griechenlands.
