Phänomenotechniken des Films

Rania Gaafar
Film as a global digital medium invokes a significant theorem and operability for the analysis of the experience of otherness in an art context. In contemporary digital video art and post-cinematic installations and image formations, another knowledge is produced through digital performances that disclose the conceptual desire of making visible an otherwise indiscernible experience of the other. With recourse to Gaston Bachelard's experimental epistemological method of a phénomenotéchnique, Rania Gaafar examines moving images and their theoretical reflections with regard to affective and perceptual processes, transversal aesthetics and media operations that reconfigure notions of the future of images and their temporality. Analyzing case studies, Gaafar explores the mediality of the experience of otherness in such works as that of British media artist Isaac Julien. It is reflected on as a new form of material difference in global frameworks that configure a postcolonial media theory.
